What a fantastic success World Book Day 2020 was at Yarm Primary School!
It was truly brilliant to see so many of our children dressed up as their favourite book characters such as Alice in Wonderland, Mr Stink and Willy Wonka. Even the teachers got involved with Miss Mowbray transforming into Cruella de Vil and Miss Puttick as the tiger from 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea.'
The fun didn't stop there, however, as children were treated to a story by a different teacher in the afternoon. Mr Jefferies visited Miss Puttick's Reception class and read Oliver Jeffers' 'Lost and Found'. The children were very enthusiastic about the main penguin character as they had just completed a topic on Antarctica and they produced some lovely writing in response. While in Year 5, Mr Roe read spooky extracts from 'In the Backseat' and had the children predicting what would happen next...!
Other activities throughout school included classes watching video masterclasses of famous authors reading extracts from their books and giving tips on how to be an exciting writer. And to top it all off, many children throughout school got involved with designing their very own book token for this year's National Book Token competition.
What a fantastic celebration of the joy of reading World Book Day 2020 was!
