Nursery have been learning about people who live in the Arctic.  We found out that they are called Eskimos and some live build igloos and live in them.  Although they are made completely out of snow and ice they are actually very warm inside!  The children designed and made their own igloos thinking carefully about shape.  They learned a new shape word which was ‘dome’ to describe what an igloo is like.

The children have also learned about how snow and ice are formed and we made some delicious ice lollies.  The children were able to see that when water becomes very cold it freezes into ice and then when it comes into contact with warmer conditions such as the temperature of the room, sun or their warm hands or mouth, the ice melts and turns back into water.  A good way to learn about changes of state!

The number of the week this week is number 5, and the children have been experimenting with different weights, exploring the concepts of heavier / lighter or balancing.
