Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Jean from Cleveland Ironstone Museum this afternoon to deliver a series of tasks based on different rock types to support our Mountain work. The children enjoyed sorting the rocks into different categories and learning about their different types and features. We then tried to find out where they came from on a map of Great Britain. The rocks were all found on the beach at Skinningrove, yet some of them came from as far away as Dover and Norway. The collection even included man-made rocks, such as a house brick that had been rounded by the action of the sea and a piece of slag, a by-product of the iron industry. We have added a lot of new scientific words to our vocabulary. We enjoyed being geologists.
