Who killed him? Was his arrow wound fatal? Did he die of the cold. Was he innocent, or had he committed a crime?
Otzi’s mummified body was discovered in a melting glacier in the Oetz Valley in the Alps in 1991. He had a flint arrowhead lodged in his shoulder, which suggests he was injured prior to bleeding to death and being encased in ice. Scientists have spent decades studying his body to try to find out more about the man and how he died. He was discovered with a copper axe and other interesting tools along with the remains of fur leggings, a cloak and a bearskin hat. He also had many unusual lined tattoos on his body. Year 4 have been fascinated by the facts around his discovery and have written wonderful newspaper reports and stories based on their theories of the events leading up to his death. Well done, Year 4.
