This week Nursery has gone into Infinity and beyond! They have been exploring the planets and have learnt which planets there are in space, their names and how far away they are from the Sun and our Earth. They have learnt some simple facts about them! Mars is called the 'Red Planet' because it is made of red coloured rock and sand and it appears to look red when you see it in the sky at night. Some planets are made up of rock and some are made of gas such as Jupiter. Jupiter has many moons orbiting it. Saturn has a ring around it which is made up of rocks and ice spinning around the planet. The children are finding these facts fascinating! We have been making our own planets. The children have been using a marbling technique to make their planets. They dropped marbles into paint and then dropped them into a round tin with a circle of paper inside. They then rolled their marbles around inside the tin. They were able to see the marbles making patterns and mixing colours together. This gave opportunities to talk about which colours make new colours when they are mixed together.
