Times Table Climbers!
Over the last few months, Year 4 have been working their socks off to recall all their times tables to 12×12.
We have mountain climbers and cable car ascenders, who have made fantastic strides.
The links below provide further revision and test practice for you and the children. Keep…
A cacophony of sound!
Year 4 enjoyed an exciting science lesson investigating that sound is a vibration. It was vey loud and noisy – drums banging, bottle organs tapping and hooting, voice balloons buzzing, rulers twanging and tuning forks humming. Our ears were ringing by the end of the lesson, but we learnt a lot…
British Science Week 2019
Year 4 have been learning how neurons make connections in our brains and help us to make memories. We made individual neutrons out of artstraws and connected them all together. Real neurons use chemicals and electrical signals to share their messages. We have learned lots of new scientific…
World Book Day 2019
Who shall we call out in the register today?
Billionaire Boy?
Harry Potter?
Ella Noying?
What a fantastic range of characters we have had in school today in celebration of World Book Day!
We love reading!
Bookshop v library? Which do you prefer?
Year 4 had a lovely morning visiting our local Waterstones bookshop where we were made most welcome by the staff. We enjoyed a fun quiz, a book hunt and listened to a very funny story. We loved browsing among so many lovely books.
We then went to our local library where we spent our DEAR time…
Otzi the Iceman
Who killed him? Was his arrow wound fatal? Did he die of the cold. Was he innocent, or had he committed a crime?
Otzi’s mummified body was discovered in a melting glacier in the Oetz Valley in the Alps in 1991. He had a flint arrowhead lodged in his shoulder, which suggests he was injured prior…
What’s the area?
Year 4 have been investigating area and perimeter in Maths lessons this week by doing lots of practical work and investigations to secure our understanding. We have worked out the most efficient way to measure area and found out that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters.
So many different rocks! So many new words!
Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Jean from Cleveland Ironstone Museum this afternoon to deliver a series of tasks based on different rock types to support our Mountain work. The children enjoyed sorting the rocks into different categories and learning about their different types and features. We then…
Evaporation experiments
Year 4 have been setting up evaporation experiments as part of our work on States of Matter. We are learning how to set up and record a scientific investigation. We have made a prediction, set up a fair test and we are looking forward to finding out the results next week.
The long climb begins
Year 4 are ‘climbing’ Mount Everest. We have a step in class that measures 30cm high. Therefore, for every 10 steps we perform we have climbed 3m up the mountain. Every spare moment we have, we add a few more metres to our total. After the first week, we have climbed a total of 619m. It’s harder…
Science and states of matter
Is it a solid or a liquid? No it can’t be because… Are humans solid? Or are we a mixture of all three states of matter? Can solids become liquids? Can gases be squashed? Is sand a solid or a liquid? Why does liquid appear on the outside of my glass when I add ice cubes to a drink?
What great…
Mindfulness
Welcome Back and a very Happy New Year 2019!
On Monday we began our ‘Mindfulness’ Project. This is 5 minutes each day where the children have an opportunity to relax and free their mind.
The children started yesterday by colouring in mandalas alongside relaxing music before being introduced…
